Tanya Barnett is a TEDx speaker, certified Life Coach, healthy relationship advocate(in business and at home), talk show host and the “Real” Wife Coach. She is the Award-Winning Author of Being a Wife Just Got Real: Things I Wish I Knew, Before I Said, “I Do”. She founded the Real Wife Movement™ to equip single and married women with tools for creating strong relationships, marriages, and families.
Through her talk show, The Tanya Barnett Show, she provides impactful information to empower women to live life to their fullest potential in their relationships and in their businesses. She also brings awareness to the unique challenges of the 21st century woman, such as motherhood, marraige, entrepreneurship, activism, etc. She also features women who are making a difference in their local communities as well globally.
She's been featured on the Tom Joyner Morning Show, NAACP, Congressional Black Caucus, Huffington Post, Black and Married with Kids, Rolling Out Magazine, etc.
Tanya is the founder of Forever Free Books, a mobile literacy nonprofit, which delivers free books and story time to low-income children in their neighborhoods and schools. She created Books, Boys, n'Cuts, a program that supported President Obama's My Brother's Keeper Initiative, to bring free books, story time and African American men into barbershops to encourage reading in African American boys. Forever Free Books has delivered over 11,000 books to children in need from Washington, DC to Los Angeles, from India to the Bahamas.
In 2018, Tanya and her husband, Don were featured in Essence.com sharing tips on how to have healthy relationships. We also appeared on season #2 of the Oprah Winfrey Network's new, hit show, BLACK LOVE DOC.
Tanya was also inducted into the 2018 NAACP Hall of Fame for the work she does with reducing illiteracy through her nonprofit, Forever Free Books.
In 2017, Tanya was awarded Author of the Year in the Relationships category at the Indie Author Legacy Gala. She was also awarded the Global Smashers Award by Cheryl Wood at the 2017 Play Time is Over Conference.
In 2016, she receive the Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc., Gamma Chapter: “Power of She Community Servant Award”. In 2015 she received the Governor’s Citation for Outstanding Community Servant and (two) citations from Maryland State Delegates for Outstanding Community Service from the work of her nonprofit.
In 2015, she also received the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Tau Lambda Lambda Chapter, “Charles County Citizen of the Year Award” as well as nominations for the 2015 Southern Maryland Women’s League “Community Contributor Award” and for the 2015 Black Celebrity Giving “Rising Star Nonprofit Award”.
Tanya is a member of National Association of Professional Women (NAPW), National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), National Black Child Development Institute (NBCDI), Greater Washington Urban League, Maryland Nonprofits, and People For Change Coalition (PFCC). She is an American Graduate on Maryland Public Television.
Tanya loves to read historical fiction and is a serious jazz lover. She has a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Social Science from University of Maryland, University College. She and her husband, Don have been married for 18 years and have 3 awesome kids and an amazing new grandson.
