I want to show women that when I decided to make "shift" happen in my life instead of allowing life to happen to me, my business grew and my relationships flourished.

I was able to make a positive impact not only on me, but on my family and my community too.

Tanya Barnett is a TEDx speaker, certified Life Coach, healthy relationship advocate(in business and at home), a Charles County Maryland Veterans Affairs Commissioner and an adjunct professor at Prince George’s Community College.

Tanya is also the co-founder of The Vet Space, a holistic resource center dedicated to the health, wellness, and healing of our nation’s veterans. She is proud service-connected disabled Air Force veteran.

Through her talk show, The Tanya Barnett Show, she provides impactful information to empower women to live life to their fullest potential in their relationships and in their businesses. She also brings awareness to the unique challenges of the 21st century woman, such as motherhood, marriage, entrepreneurship, activism, etc. She also features women who are making a difference in their local communities as well globally.

She's been featured in ESSENCE Magazine, on OPRAH Winfrey Network, the Tom Joyner Morning Show, The TODAY Show, Johns Hopkins University, NAACP, Congressional Black Caucus, Huffington Post, FBI, EPA, etc.

Tanya is a 2018 N.A.A.C.P. Hall of Famer and the 2016 Charles County Citizen of the Year for the work of Forever Free Books, the nonprofit she and her husband founded in 2014.

They deliver free books and conduct story time to low-income children in their communities. To reduce the literacy gap between wealthy children and low income children, they intentionally bring African American men into underserved communities to expose them to college educated men who read to them.

In 2018, Tanya and her husband, Don were featured in Essence.com sharing tips on how to have a healthy relationship. We also appeared on season #2 of the Oprah Winfrey Network's new, hit show, BLACK LOVE DOC.

In 2017, Tanya won the Indie Author Legacy Award for Relationships for her debut book: Being a Wife Just Got Real: Things I Wish I Knew, Before I Said, “I Do”. 

In 2016, she received the Iota Phi Lambda Sorority, Inc., Gamma Chapter: “Power of She Community Servant Award”. 

In 2015, she received the Governor’s Citation for Outstanding Community Servant and (two) citations from Maryland State Delegates for Outstanding Community Service from the work of her nonprofit. 

In 2015, she also received the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Tau Lambda Lambda Chapter, “Charles County Citizen of the Year Award” as well as nominations for the 2015 Southern Maryland Women’s League “Community Contributor Award” and for the 2015 Black Celebrity Giving “Rising Star Nonprofit Award”.

Tanya is a member of National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), National Black Child Development Institute (NBCDI), Greater Washington Urban League, Maryland Nonprofits, and People For Change Coalition (PFCC). She is an American Graduate on Maryland Public Television.

Tanya loves to read historical fiction and is a serious jazz lover. She has a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Social Science from UMUC. She and her husband, Don have been married for 20 years, have 3 awesome kids and an amazing grandson.
